19TH AMERICAN CHROMOLITHOGRAPH BY JEROME THOMPSON
Jerome Thompson (American, 1814-1886) chromolithograph on paper, The Old Oaken Buckett, 1867. Signed and dated in the plate lower right. The title printed on verso. Framed. A fine example of American chromolithography in imitation of fine art painting, this chromo is mounted on canvas affixed to its original wood stretcher. The classic bucolic rural scene shows that even in the 1860s many Americans were wistful for the old-fashioned country ways.
