An antique limited edition photo engraving on wove paper, The Deserted Inn, 1892, after the original painting by Alfred Wordsworth Thompson, American, 1840 to 1896. Engraved by Lucien Nicholas Quarante, French, 1860 to 1902. From Charles M. Kurtz, Illustrations from the Art Gallery of the Worlds Columbian Exposition, Philadelphia: George Barrie, publisher. Signed and dated in the plate lower left. Signed by the etcher lower right. Additionally inscribed in pencil lower left. Copyrighted 1894 by Geo Barrie upper to the center. Impressed stamp lower left. History painter Alfred Wordsworth Thompson was born in 1840 in Baltimore, studying at Newton University. By the time of the Civil War, Thompson was an artist for the Illustrated London News and Harpers Weekly. Alfred Thompson is known for Genre, landscape, marine and history painting.
