A collection of 5 rare antique American fractional currency specimen banknotes. Fractional Currency, introduced during the Civil War era, represented a unique and temporary solution to the shortage of coins in circulation. These small denomination banknotes, also known as shinplasters, were issued in fractional values ranging from 3 cents to 50 cents. The lot features a 5 cents note from the first issue, a 5 cents note from the third issue, a 10 and 25 cents notes from the second issue, a 10 cents note from the third issue. Each showcasing intricate engravings, ornate designs, and distinctive denominations. The specimens are specially marked to differentiate them from regular circulation notes, making them even more coveted among collectors. Circa between 1862 and 1869.
