POLISH NUDE PORTRAIT OIL PAINTING BY HENRIK GOTLIB
Henryk Gotlib, Polish, 1890 to 1966, oil painting on board depicting a female nude portrait. Signed lower right. Framed. Additionally signed, on the backside. Henryk Gotlib was a Polish painter, graphic artist, journalist, and art critic, author of the book Wedrowki Painarza. After the period of avant garde formism, in the 1920s, Henryk Gotlib turned to color as the main means of expression. A specific colorism lay in the nature of the painter's work, which should be associated with his artistic education, which he received from Wojciech Weiss at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow. He belonged to artistic groups - Formisci, Zwornik, Cercle des Artistes Polonais, and London Group. From 1923 he stayed in Paris, where he participated in the salons there. In 1939 he settled permanently in England. At the beginning of his work, he experimented and searched for new solutions; with time, color became for him the main element in building the picture, which he considered to be properly constructed when the colors were combined and contrasted in such a way as to obtain the effect closest to the artist's original feeling of nature. One of a kind artwork.
