Gre Gerardi, a Modern artist, oil painting on canvas depicting a portrait of a young school girl and a cat with a ball yarn after the original painting by Kate Greenaway, English, British, 1846 to 1901. Signed lower right. Framed. Provenance: Donny Malone Auctions, Saugerties, NY, United States, April 10, 2023, lot 422. Kate Greenaway is known for Botanic, genre, children miniature painter. The essence of Victorian childhood is exhibited in the idealized children of Catherine Greenaways work. Her dreamy little figures seem almost melancholy as they prance through the English countryside unaware of time or place. Their outfits of frilly smocks, mob caps and sunbonnets seem Regency in appearance but are none-the-less the figments of Miss Greenaways girlish imagination. One of a kind artwork.
