An antique American WWI era trench knife. Marked US L.F. and C. 1917 on the guard indicate its origin and the year of manufacture, with L.F. and C. standing for Landers, Frary and Clark, a well-known American cutlery company that produced military knives during World War I. The triangular blade shape is a distinctive feature of many trench knives from this era.
