MEDITERRANEAN VILLAGE SCENE OIL PAINTING BY STANFIELD
Clarkson Frederick Stanfield, British 1793 to 1867, an oil painting on board, depicting a Mediterranean village scene. Signed lower left. Framed. The frame features a carved wide outer section with deep, elaborate carvings of scrolls, leaves, and other organic motifs with sculptural floral elements on corners. Clarkson Frederick Stanfield was a prominent English painter, often inaccurately credited as William Clarkson Stanfield, who was best known for his large scale paintings of dramatic marine subjects and landscapes. He was the father of the painter George Clarkson Stanfield and the composer Francis Stanfield. Provenance: Leonard Auction, 2022. Bears a label.
