A biographie of Dr. Bernhard Beer. 22.5 cm., slightly yellowing leaves, few aging stains, stamps, ex library copy. Good General Condition. Rare.
Bernhard Beer - 1801-1861. German Jewish Author. In 1824 he formed a society of young men for the discussion of the Bible and other Hebrew literature. Beer was the first to introduce sermons into the German language. Beer fought also as a journalist for the emancipation of his coreligionists in Saxony. Beer was by nature a theologian. He endeavored to systematize Jewish theology, and presented his ideas on the subject in various magazines and special publications.
Zecharias Frankel - 1801-1875. Was a Bohemian-German rabbi and a historian who studied the historical development of Judaism. He was the founder and, the most eminent member of, the school of historical Judaism, which advocates freedom of research, while upholding the authority of traditional Jewish belief and practice. This school of thought was the intellectual progenitor of Conservative Judaism.
