Original copperplate engraving by the Flemish engraver Pieter ven der Heyden (ca. 1530-ca.1585), according to an original by Pieter Brueghel the Elder (1525/1569), the most celebrated artist of Flemish and Brabantine Renaissance art . Engraving published by Hieronymus Cock (ca. 1517-1570), in Antwerp, around 1558, from the series "Seven deadly sins", allegorically and satirically representing pride (SVPERBIA). With the following subscription: Cock. excud. cum priuileg. 1558. — P. brueghel. Inventor. Proof cropped by the image, lacking the lower margin with the caption and Flemish inscription.
