Pocket knife - Herzl. Germany, 1930s
Opens pocket knife. on the front - a portrait of Theodor Herzl, the inscription 'Herzl', and a Star of David. Made by LEOPOLD GORNITZ Germany - Manufacturer's stamp and SNF emblem on the base of the knife, c. 1930s.
The manufacturer LEOPOLD GORNITZ (Arie Gorny) was one of the leaders of the Zionist Organization in Helsinki. In 1933, Gornitz immigrated to Eretz Israel and was one of the first of the "Avihayil" moshav, Emek Hefer. Alongside his work on the farm, he continued to run a company representing foreign industrial plants in the Land of Israel. He was active in the "Haganah" and in the illegal immigration activities of the Aliyah B. organization.
