Collection of documents revealing the crimes of the Nazi criminal Adolf Heusinger. Moscow, 1962 - First French edition - The copy of the British Chief Prosecutor Hartley Shawcross
Adolf Heusinger contre la paix, contre l'humanité, criminel de guerre: documents traduits de l'allemand - Adolf Heusinger against peace, against humanity, war criminal: documents translated from German. Published by Éd. en langues étrangères. Moscow, 1962 - first French edition. The copy of the British chief prosecutor at the Nuremberg trials Hartley Shawcross with his signature on the title page.
Large collection of documents signed by Adolf Heusinger, planner of Nazi Germany's ground operations in Poland, proving the war crimes he committed mainly against the Soviets. The documents show that Heusinger organized bloody massacres of the civilian population, he ordered the massacre of prisoners of war, shooting of hostages including women, children and the elderly, ordered the burning of entire villages, and more. Featured are documents he signed ordering the execution of partisans without trial, and instructions for the "quiet disposal of undesirable witnesses", and more. During the winter of 1943-1944 he was behind the engineering unit whose purpose was to create poison gas to destroy partisans and residents found in the 17th Army's area, and also commanded the SS hangmen, and more. Most of the documents presented here were discovered after the Nuremberg trials in which he was not tried for his crimes, and in this report the Soviet government demands the United States extradite him (at that time he was residing in the United States) in order to prosecute him for his crimes.
Adolf Heusinger [1897-1982] was a German general during World War II. At the outbreak of World War II, Heusinger took part in planning the ground military operations in Poland, France and the Low Countries. He was promoted to the rank of Oberst on August 1, 1940 and appointed chief of operations of the OKH in October 1940. After the war he served as the first Inspector General (equivalent to Chief of Staff) of the Bundeswehr. After the OKH chief of staff, Colonel-General Kurt Zeitzler, was forced to resign due to health problems on June 10, 1944, Heusinger temporarily succeeded him, he was present at Hitler's headquarters on July 20, 1944 when the bomb planted by Claus von Stauffenberg exploded, Heusinger was injured in the explosion and hospitalized. He surrendered to the Western Allies in May 1945. Heusinger testified at the Nuremberg trials and was released from captivity in 1947, he was appointed security advisor to West German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer in 1950, he also served in the German Ministry of Defense under Minister Theodor Blank. He was appointed the first Inspector General of the Bundeswehr in 1957 and served in that position until his appointment as Chairman of the NATO Military Committee in April 1961. He retired from service in 1964. Heusinger died in Cologne in 1982, and despite the abundant evidence accumulated over the years of his part in the extermination of European Jewry, he managed to evade trial for the crimes he committed during the war.
The British chief prosecutor at the Nuremberg trials Hartley Shawcross [1902-2003] is known for his advocacy outside the courtroom during the trials, especially his famous saying about not listening to a leader when it contradicts human conscience. In his two-day prosecution speech on July 26 and 27, he sought to undermine any belief that the Nuremberg trials were “victor’s justice” in the sense of revenge taken against defeated enemies. He elaborates that this trial is the trial of history not only towards the Nazi criminals themselves who committed the terrible crimes, but it is a trial for generations to come, to show that the world did not remain silent and will not remain silent in the face of such crimes, and that their perpetrators will always be brought to justice. He links in his remarks the terrible crimes of Hitler, Himmler and Goebbels to the cooperation of the entire German people. He also elaborates the steps the Nazis took from the early 1930s to eliminate the opposition, dictatorial steps taken in the most violent manner ever.
A central part of his speech was devoted to the persecution of the Jews: "The final solution of mass murder was already written in Hitler's "Mein Kampf", the Bible of the Nazis... The terror, murder, and persecution of political rivals, these were only the prelude to the persecution of the Jews ...", and he goes on to detail the crimes the Nazis committed against the Jews from the Nuremberg Laws, to sending them to death camps, detailing each defendant's part in the terrible deeds, and more. Hartley himself was born in Germany to British parents. In 1945 he was knighted upon his appointment as chief prosecutor for the United Kingdom at the Nuremberg trials.
