Jerusalem - photographs by Ernst Landrock and Rudolf Lehnert - Tunis

Eleven photographs of Jerusalem (including one photograph of the Jaffa seashore). Published by Lehnert & Landrock photography studio - the Viennese photographers Ernst Lehnert and Rudolf Lehnart, [early 20th century].

Photographs: Temple Mount, streets of Jerusalem, David's Tower, Dome of the Rock, Mount of Olives, Bedouin tent, Jaffa view from the sea, and more. All the photographs are described in the image, numbered and signed in the plate. Three of them indicate the studio location - Tunis (the studio of photographers Rudolf Franz Lehnert and Ernst Heinrich Landrock operated in Tunis until the outbreak of World War I. After the war it reopened in Cairo).

Rudolf Franz Lehnert [1878-1948] made his first trip to Tunisia in 1903. In 1904, upon returning to Europe, Lehnert met Landrock who studied in Switzerland, and the two decided to become business partners. They established the Lehnert & Landrock photography agency. The two returned to Tunisia in 1904 and opened a photo shop on Avenue de France, Tunis. At the start of World War I, the shop closed when martial law was declared in the French colonies. After the war Lehnert traveled to the Middle East; Egypt, Palestine and Lebanon. In 1924 the partners moved to Cairo and established a similar business to the one in Tunis. Landrock continued to manage the studio and shop on Sherif Street, Cairo until the outbreak of World War II, when he returned to Germany in 1938.

11 photographs, approximately 16x12 cm. Peels and light defects in the margins. Open tear in the lower left corner of the photograph streets of Jerusalem. Stains. Condition good.
