Saul Raskin - collection of printed publications


Interesting collection of 31 printed paper items related to the American Jewish artist Saul Raskin: exhibition invitations, various publications about his books and paintings, letters, newspapers dealing with Raskin, various booklets, and more. Most of the documents are from the 50s and 60s.


Saul Raskin [1866-1966] a Jewish painter born in Ukraine. In his youth he studied in Odessa, after completing his studies he toured Europe and eventually immigrated to the United States around 1904-1905. He gained international recognition already then. His works were exhibited around the world, including at the 1915 and 1916 San Francisco World's Fairs. Many of his works appeared in the Jewish press in New York City. He also illustrated Jewish holy books such as Pirkei Avot, the Passover Haggadah and the Five Megillot. Raskin toured Eretz Israel several times (from the 1920s) and even published a book featuring a selection of his paintings of its landscapes and lifestyle, with an emphasis on the pioneer milieu.
