FROM THE LAND OF SHEBA TALES OF JEWS OF YEMEN, edited by S. D. GOITEIN, published by Schocken, New York 1947 - First translated edition by christopher fremantle. A copy with the original dust jacket. English.

"Despite being isolated for long periods of time, the Jews of Yemen remained completely loyal to their Jewish way" (from the editor's words). An interesting publication that brings together a collection of folktales from Yemen that reflect Yemenite Jewishness in all areas of life: religion, social life, family life, the Yemenite genealogy, customs, and relations with their non-Jewish neighbors, and more. The author presents here more well-known and less known Yemenite folktales, some of which appeared in the writings of travelers and tourists who visited Yemen in the 19th century and earlier from which one can learn about the unique character of the Yemenite community, its stability and its unique customs with roots from before the destruction of the Second Temple.

121 p. 20 cm. Hard cover, original. With original dust jacket. Good - very good condition.
