First edition of this text by Fr. Jacinto de S. Miguel published in the context of the publication of another title by Fr. Manuel dos Santos, author of the eighth volume of the Lusitanian Monarchy, โAnlysis Benedictinaโ. Monge de S. Jerónimo, Fr. Jacinto de S. Miguel was born in Lisbon in 1692 and died in the same city in 1763. He was Rector of the College of Coimbra and General of its congregation in Portugal. This work of his is, then, a commentary on the work of Fr. Manuel dos Santos which, in turn, had been written in response to another pamphlet in Castilian, entitled โCrisis Doxologica y apologetica por el monachato legitimo de el maximo padre S. Geronimo en sus congregations de España, Portugal y Lombardiaโ , where it was maintained that the Jerónimos had priority and prerogatives over the Benedictines. This dispute gave rise to several publications, among which the present title that has together the โNew Notes on Benedictine Analysisโ by Fr. Francisco de Santa Maria and printed by Fr. Hyacinth of S. Miguel.
