First published in 1956, «Nobilíssima Visão» does not find any outstanding surrealist contributions, despite being “a humorous vision of the world (sometimes in a surrealist way), where neo-realist ingredients appear to be immediately surpassed” (O Surrealism in Portugal, p. 316). In the present edition, it is the author himself who helps us to understand the differences from the first: “Unlike the first edition, in which a miscellany of dates of making and perhaps also of intentions formed the book, this second edition of the «Nobillíssima Visão » includes only the poems written under that title in 1945-46, years that correspond to a reading of the «real country» encountered by the author at the end of his beautiful adolescence, but already suspicious of the land on which his projects of civil poetry were based: lyrical, innocent: dramatic” (Author's note).
