Important and VERY RARE edition of Luís de Camões' Rhymes commented by Manuel de Faria e Sousa. The preliminary pages of the first volume contain the life of the Poet, written for the second time by the commentator, who, according to José do Canto, fixed two important dates, that of Camões's ship to India and, indirectly, that of his birth. According to Inocêncio, the printing of these Commentaries was interrupted, leaving eclogue VIII, assuming the existence of the manuscript of the rest, but they were never published. "Whatever your opinion about Faria and Sousa's Commentaries, they will always be a vast repository of all kinds of news and erudition" (José do Canto).
