MS. Creação da Junta do Comercio, 1649

[JUNTA do Comércio do Brasil]. s.l.: s.n., s.d. [s.XVIII].

1 v.; manuscrito sobre papel; 5 ff. br., 44 ff. manuscritos sem numeração, 39 ff. em br.; 340 mm. Encadernação inteira de pele da época, um pouco cansada; corte das folhas carminado; limpo.

Interesting manuscript with the encyclopedia of several documents relating to the Brazilian Board of Trade. At the beginning of the volume we find the inscription 'By Joaquim Ignacio da Cruz', which, together with an ex-libris with the family coat of arms pasted in the upper right corner of the first folio of the encyclopedia, leads us to conclude that it was a volume composed for the use of Joaquim Inácio da Cruz Sobral, 1st Lord of the Morgado de Sobral de Monte Agraço, an important businessman with interests in Brazil, where he spent part of his life, in addition to public positions linked to finance, among them that of Chief Treasurer of the Royal Treasury, which he occupied after the death of his brother.

The manuscript contains the Charter creating the Board of Trade of 1649; the institution of the General Company for the State of Brazil; Charter confirming the Board; Regulations of the Board of Trade of Brazil; Charter extinguishing the Board, of 1720; and, finally, the copy of a letter from the king written to the Chamber of the City of Baía, dated October 26, 1650.

Curious and interesting.
