A letter handwritten and signed by the Rebbe Rabbi Ya'akov of Narol to Rabbi Efrayim Zalman Margaliyot of Brody [circa 1800].
Letters handwritten by the Rebbe of Narol are extremely rare and have never been seen in auctions! To this, we can add the fact that Divrei Torah by the Rebbe are also extremely rare!
The letter begins with praise of Rabbi Efrayim Zalman Margaliyot. Then the Rebbe apologizes for not being able to discuss the matter at length and continues to discussing the Tosfot on Roah Ha'Shana tractate regarding the issue of blowing the Shofar on Sabbath.
Throughout the letter he refers to "the true Tsaddik and the Rabbi of all members of the Diaspora" and discusses his opinion.
He ends the letter with a request that the Rabbi remember him and his name favorably.
On the reverse side of the letter, he wrote: "for the large and important city in Israel Brody" to the "Well-known, knowledgeable … and wise Rabbi Shlomo Zalman …" and his signature. "From the holy community of Radziechów". "Awaiting his esteemed response".

Rabbi Ya'akov was born in Sokal to his father Rabbi Mordehcai Reinman. Already as a yeshiva student, he was well known as an extraordinary genius and despite his young age, many wanted to appoint him as their rabbi. He was appointed rabbi of Cosva (of the Lvov county) when he was only twenty years old. He was then rabbi of Radziechów, Holshitz and finally Narol, where he served as rabbi until his death in 1814, when he was only 36 years old.
He was known as an ascetic and although he was young, his body was weakened from his fasting from Sabbath to Sabbath. His daily routine started in the wee hours of the night by immersing in the Mikveh (ritual bath) that was built in his Beit Midrash. After long hours of reciting Psalms, he began his study of the Torah. He was a disciple of the Seer of Lublin, who said of him that "The complete road to Lublin shines due to Rabbi Ya'akov!" when the Seer of Lublin set his table, he seated Rabbi Ya'akov beside him/
Rabbi Ya'akov was a Rebbe who had only ten Hassidim, all of them holy men. Among them were Rabbi Feibush of Uhnow and the 'Divrei Chaim' of Sanz. He told his great grandson that in his youth he went on foot to Narol four times to meet the Rebbe.

Before his death in 1814, he blessed the citizens of his town telling them that there will be no fire in the town for the next hundred years. Indeed, for a hundred years the town suffered no fires until in 1914, with the outbreak of World War I, a fire broke out in the town cuasing great damage.
He was eulogized by Rabbi Shlomo Kluger and was buried in Narol.
Divrei Torah by the Rebbe are almost non-existent. The novellae before us is a rare, important remnant of his doctrine.
A thick leaf. 4 pp. Two pages of the handwritten response and an additional page of inscriptions regarding the addressee and his address. On an additional page, a list of names (for prayer?).
