On title page, signatures in Italian script of "Baruch Avraham Fiono" and "Mazal Tov Modona" (twice, one signature trimmed).
R. Mazal Tov Modena, disciple of R. Yishmael HaKohen of Modena author of Zera Emet. A leading Italian rabbi of his times (ca. 1770s-1830s). In 1806 he was invited to Napoleon's Sanhedrin, and after his teacher's passing (in 1811) he succeeded him as Rabbi of Modena. His halachic rulings and novellae remain in manuscript. His son, disciple and successor as Rabbi of Modena was R. David Zacuto, author of Zecher David and more.
On leaves of book, several glosses (slightly trimmed) in Italian script, two of them lengthy (to pp. 29b and 157a).
Censorship expurgations to sections 137 and 160. Signature of censor on last page.

[12], 171, [1] leaves. 28.5 cm. Condition varies; most leaves in good condition, some in good-fair condition. Stains, including dampstains and some small mold stains. Marginal open tear to top of title page and two other leaves, not affecting text (repaired with paper). At top of leaf [12] and center of last leaf, open tears, with loss of text (repaired with paper, with missing text supplied by hand). Colored edges. New binding.
