Ketubah – Jerusalem, 1864 – Recording the Marriage of Shlomo Bradky, Son-in-law of Rabbi Shmuel Salant
Ketubah, in calligraphic handwriting (square script and Rashi script), recording the marriage of Rabbi Shlomo “son of the late tsaddik Rabbi Yeshaya” Bradky, with Chaya, daughter of Rabbi Shmuel Salant, Rabbi of Jerusalem. Jerusalem 1864. Witnesses’ signatures: Rabbi “Yitzchak son of R’ Yehuda Shemesh of Kollel Perushim” and Rabbi “Yosef son of R’ Avraham Binyamin Rivlin”. Signature of the groom “Shlomo son of R’ Yeshaya”, and additional signatures of the same witnesses. On the reverse of the leaf: a “tosefet Ketubah” from 1869 - signed by witnesses Rabbi “Meir son of Asher Manikest” and Rabbi “Michel HaCohen son of R’ Eliezer”. With a shtar signed by the groom, Rabbi “Shlomo son of Rabbi Yeshaya” and additional signatures of the same witnesses. The groom, Rabbi Shlomo Bradky, an exceptional Torah scholar, served for more than 40 years as chief cantor of the great Churva synagogue. He bequeathed this position to his grandson Rabbi Yisrael Bradky (Bar-Zakai, 1890-1970), who filled this position until the fall of the Old City in 1948. 38X50 cm. Round cutting at the top of the leaf. Fair condition, wear, minor tears to leaf folds.
