Popularly known simply as “Rachel, ” Racel Felix (1821-58) was an internationally celebrated actress. She is here depicted in her role as Phaedra. Likely issued to coincide with her performances in Boston.
A Swiss-born Jewess, Rachel became the mistress of, among others, Napoleon III and Prince Napoléon. She is buried in a mausoleum in the Jewish part of Père Lachaise Cemetery.
