Torso seeming to float next to an anatomical detail study, etching printed in red on greyish paper, 1966, minimal crease mark, dimensions of depiction approx. 10 x 14.5 cm, dimensions of sheet approx. 11 x 16.5 cm. Artist info: important German painter, draughtsman and graphic artist. Painter, draughtsman and graphic artist (1929 Schönebeck/Elbe until 2004 Leipzig), is considered the founder of the "Leipzig School" along with Wolfgang Mattheuer, Bernhard Heisig and Heinz Zander, 1945-46 painter's apprenticeship in Schönebeck and attendance at the master craftsman's school in Magdeburg, 1948-50 studies at the HGB Leipzig with Elisabeth Voigt, Walter Arnold and Ernst Hassebrauk, member of the Schönebeck Circle and influenced by Katharina Heise, 1950-53 studied at the University of Greifswald, 1953 state examination, 1953-54 research assistant at the Central House of Folk Art Leipzig, then freelance or as assistant and later lecturer at the HGB Leipzig. as assistant and later lecturer at the HGB Leipzig, 1972 professor at the HGB and 1973-76 its rector, 1976 freelance and commissioned to execute the world's largest painting "Early Civil Revolution in Germany" (1722 m²) for the Peasants' War Panorama in Bad Frankenhausen, on which he worked until 1987, 1982 member of the Royal Academy of Arts of Sweden, 1983 honorary member of the Academy of Arts of the GDR, 1985 honorary doctorate, member and from 1989 vice-president of the VBK of the GDR, received numerous honours, worked in Leipzig , source: Vollmer, Eisold "Künstler in der DDR" and Internet.
