Two children present their mother with a birthday cake, which the mother accepts full of joy, pencil on paper, late 19th c., on the reverse side of the frame machine-inscribed note "Bleistiftzeichnung Anton Ebert 1835 Kladrau/Böhmen Schü. v. Waldmüller Gratulation 2280.- S", minimally stained and evenly browned, framed under mount and behind glass, mount cut-out approx. 30.5 x 26.5 cm. Artist's impression: Austrian genre, portrait and landscape painter (1835 Kladrau Castle near Mies in Bohemia until 1896 Vienna), studied at the Academy in Prague, later at the Academy in Vienna under Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller, whose "favourite pupil" he was considered to be, undertook various study trips, from 1862 member of the Vienna House of Artists, achieved fame as a portrait painter and produced, among others, portraits of Prince Alfred August Windischgrätz and miniature portraits of Emperor Franz Josef I., occasionally turning to landscape painting and the painting of the "Styrian".
