idyllic depiction of everyday life with a view of a village on a hillside surrounded by meadows and fields with a church and a stately manor house, in the foreground a maid in the meadow tending the sheep and a farmer's wife on her way home, graphite, watercolour and opaque white, mid 19th cent, Signature "Carl A. Lebsch..." partly covered by the passepartout at lower right, browned and stained, framed under passepartout and behind glass. Artist's info: German painter, draughtsman and graphic artist (1800 Schmiegel near Posen until 1877 Munich), from 1815 on scholarship of the King of Bavaria studied at the Munich Art Academy under Max Josef Wagenbauer, Johann Georg Dillis, Wilhelm von Kobell and Carl Ernst Christoph Heß, from 1825 active as a freelance artist in Munich, 1830 his main work "Malerische Topographie des Königreichs Bayern" was published, the artist specialised in the depiction of old castles and palaces, Source: Thieme-Becker, Matrikel der Münchner Akademie and Wikipedia.
