Chassidut. First, rare edition. Birkat David (Birchas Dawid), 1845 (1800). Complete, well-preserved copy.

Sefer Birkat David, Chassidic commentary on Sefer Bereshit, by the Admor the holy Gaon Rabbi Avraham David Wohrman of Buchach.

Forgery, unique.

On the title page: Jihdas Rosanis Press, 1800. The printer's name and the two (contradictory) years of printing on the title page are forged. The true year of printing is implied in the signature of the editor at the end of the book, emphasizing the words ’תהלה לאלהי דוד’ - תר"ה. (1845).

Such forgeries were done in Chassidic books that were printed in Galicia at the time due to censorial prohibitions and the persecution of Chassidim by members of the Enlightenment Movement [A. Yaari lists 16 books that were forged in such a manner; on this phenomenon, see: A. Yaari, Beit Dfus shel Harabbanit Yehudit Rosanis Belvov, Kiryat Sefer, 17, 1940, p. 107, no. 43].

On verso of the title page, the sentence "תורת ה' תמימה" was printed in large fonts and beneath it, it was noted that the approbations were not printed "מטעם הכמוס". Apparently, omitting the approbations was also part of concealing the details of printing for the above reasons.

Der Buchacher Rov, Rabbi Avraham David Wohrman of Buchach (1771-1841), a leading Chassidic Rav and Posek. When he was about nine years old, the Gaon Rabbi Meshulam Igra met him and talked to him on Divrei Torah, later saying that the child was designated to be a model Moreh Hora'ah of his generation. After his marriage, he began following the leading Admorim of his generation, Rabbi levi Yitzchak of Berditchev, Rabbi Moshe Leib of Sassov, Rabbi Chaim of Chernovich and Rabbi Zvi Hirsch of Nadvorna. When he was twenty, he succeeded his in-law, Rabbi Zvi Hirsch Kara Av Beit Din of Buchach author of Neta Sha'ashu'im, as Av Beit Din of Buchach. Authored many books including Da'at Kedoshim on Yoreh Deah, Ezer Mekudash  and more. His unique halachic book Eshel Avraham on Shulchan Aruch Orach Chaim, which contains halachic commentary on Chassidic customs,   was printed in editions of the Shulchan Aruch and is often cited in the Poskim literature.
