Three stories by N.F.Pavlov. 1935. Lifetime edition
1835. In the printing house of N. Stepanov.412 p. Soft publisher's cover is hidden under the owner's semi-leather binding of the epoch.
Stories by N. F. Pavlov are an intermediate link between the Romantic and Realist stories. They contain signs of the "ideal" (Belinsky), the Romantic movement, and realist tendencies. The first story – “Nameday” – truthfully describes the slavishly humiliating situation of a servile musician who, in his own words, was "taken from his father and mother" and, having concluded after an examination of his teeth and lips that he could be a flutist in the servile orchestra, was "sent... to learn the flute”. “Аuction” is a miniature story, a picturesque sketch of the life of "the society", " foppish and somewhat mannered for all its outward simplicity” (Belinsky). In the story, in an ironic tone, "elegantly and with brilliance" the narrative of the revenge of a young society man with an unfaithful lover woman is told. “Аuction” is a very nice joke, – Pushkin commented on the story, – a light picture that originally contained three or four persons. – And I'm going to an auction, – and I'm from an auction – is a truly comic attribute”. Perhaps the most artistically and socially significant part of the cycle was the story “Yataghan”. It tells the story of a young man who was made a cornetcy at a time when "the military ... triumphed on all the stages”. The story is written by the author with genuine drama.
New trends in Pavlov's stories were immediately noted by his contemporaries – Belinsky, Nadezhdin, Chaadayev, Shevyryov. According to Pushkin’s words, “Pavlov was the first one to write truly entertaining stories”. Tyutchev, in one of his letters to his correspondent I.S. Gagarin, admired Pavlov's talent: “I have recently read with real pleasure the three stories of Pavlov, especially the last one”.
Preservation cardboard and leather abrasions, foxing. The unbacked book is hard. Backbone has tears.
