Conjunto de dez cadeiras francesas Restauração, do primeiro quartel do séc. XIX, do "ébéniste" François Honoré Georges Jacob-Desmalter
Set of ten French Restoration chairs, from the first quarter of the 19th century. by "ébéniste" François Honoré Georges Jacob-Desmalter, in various solid and banded woods (rosewood, "acajou"?) Partially hollow backrests decorated with inlaid fillets, scrolls and stylized plant motifs. Trapezoidal shaped seats, straight waistlines and saber-shaped legs. Backrests and seats upholstered in striped fabric in shades of beige, green and burgundy. Signed with an incised mark ".IACOB". Traces of woodworm. Restorations, faults and defects. (10) Height approx.: 85.5 cm. François Honoré Georges Jacob-Desmalter (1770-1841), French "ébéniste" belonged to the famous family of French "ébénistes" Jacob. From his father Georges Jacob, he learned the trade, having succeeded as director of his workshop in 1796, with his older brother. At the beginning of the 19th century, after the death of his father and brother, François Honoré's workshop was one of the most important and prosperous furniture workshops in Paris. Among his clients were Pauline Borghese, sister of Napoleon or Empress Josephine, for whom he created numerous pieces that were found in the Imperial Palaces. The incised stamp found on these chairs effectively attributes their authorship to this master, with the year of production being dated from 1813 to 1825. These chairs belonged to the collection of Their Royal Highnesses, the Counts of Paris, having been purchased in the middle of the last century by the Portuguese collector, Dr. Ricardo do Espírito Santo Silva, thus integrating his collection.
