Anatoly (Tankhum) Lvovich Kaplan (1903-1980).
Graduated from the Higher Artistic and Technical Institute (VKHUTEIN) in Petrograd-Leningrad (1921-1927), teachers: GS Vereisky, AA Rylov, NE Radlov, KS Petrov-Vodkin. In 1937-1940 he worked in the experimental lithographic workshop of the Leningrad branch of the Union of Artists (headed by GS Vereisky). In exhibitions since 1939. Personal exhibitions abroad since 1961 (London, Jerusalem).
From 1944 to 1947 he created about 200 works dedicated to Leningrad. The greatest fame was brought by works related to Jewish folklore and literature (Sholem Aleichem - "The Enchanted Tailor", "Tevye the Milkman", "Song of Songs", "Stempenu" (1953 - 1967), Mendele Moicher-Sforim "Chroma Chroma" ( 1966 - 1967), etc.) and folk art (the tale "Goat" (1957 - 1961), "Jewish folk songs" (1958 - 1960, 1962).
In 1930-1940, part of the drawings and lithographs were signed by "T. Kaplan", lots 66 and 67 of this auction.
