Astapov Ivan Stepanovich (1905-1982) - graphic artist, painter. Studied at the Samara Art College (from 1918) under M. I. Stepanov, in the Studio of D. N. Kardovsky in Moscow (1923-1929). Engaged in easel graphics, posters, book illustration; worked in the technique of lithography, made a number of paintings (views of Leningrad and its environs, 1930s). During the Great Patriotic War, he remained in besieged Leningrad. He acted as one of the organizers of the satirical leaflet "Fighting Pencil" (1941-1943); created a series of drawings about the Leningrad Front. Executed cycles of autolithographs: "Magnitogorsk - a forge of weapons" (1945), "In Lenin's places" (1946). Collaborated in publishing houses: Lenizdat, Detgiz. In 1957 he was awarded the title of Honored Artist of the RSFSR. Since 1929 - participant of exhibitions. Held solo exhibitions in Leningrad (1947) and Kuibyshev (1949). A retrospective exhibition of the artist (together with D. M. Astapova) was held in 2009 in St. Petersburg. The works are in many museum collections, including the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum and others.
