Ilya Iosifovich Kabakov (1933-2023) - Soviet and American artist, representative of Moscow conceptualism. He became world famous in the late Soviet and post-Soviet periods thanks to installations in which he explored the feeling of alienation and boredom characteristic of Soviet everyday life. Recently he has been working in collaboration with his niece (later wife) Emilia. In 2008, together with his wife, he was awarded the Artistic Prize of the Emperor of Japan. Kabakov’s works “Beetle” ($5.8 million, 2008) and “Luxury Room” ($4.1 million, 2006) are the two most expensive works of contemporary Russian art ever sold (both at Phillips de Pury, London).
Publications: Chukovsky K.I. The Miracle Tree and Other Tales. M.: Children's literature, 1980.
