Damman "The Gleaners" Etching After Millet
Benjamin Damman (French, 1835-1921) after Jean-Francois Millet (French, 1814-1875). Etching on laid paper titled "The Gleaners" after Millet's 1857 painting depicting three women working in a field. The original painting is in the collection of the Musee d'Orsay. Signed in plate along the lower right; Millet's signature in plate in the lower right of the image. The print is from Albert Wolff "Cent Chefs-d'Oeuvre: The Choice of French Private Galleries." Paris: Georges Petit and Ludovic Bashet, 1883. Distributed by Knoedler & Co., New York.
Height: 12 1/2 in x width: 17 3/4 in.
Condition: There are no tears, losses, or restorations. The sheet is slightly toned; the work is slightly unevenly toned within the image. There are a few light creases/handling marks along the edges. There is a slight undulation to the sheet. Light wear along the deckled edges. There are a few small stains to the sheet. Pencil number 76 written along the upper right. The work is not framed.
