Courtry "The Good Samaritan" Etching After Decamps
Charles Courtry (French, 1846-1897) after Alexandre-Gabriel Decamps (French, 1803-1860). Etching on laid paper after a Decamps painting titled "The Good Samaritan" depicting the biblical tale of the Good Samaritan who aids a wounded man. Signed in plate by Courtry along the lower right. Crown watermark. The original painting is held in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The print is from Albert Wolff "Cent Chefs-d'Oeuvre: The Choice of French Private Galleries." Paris: Georges Petit and Ludovic Bashet, 1883. Distributed by Knoedler & Co., New York.
Height: 17 3/4 in x width: 12 1/2 in.
Condition: The sheet is lightly toned and light undulation throughout. Light wear to the deckled edges. There is light creases along the lower edge. Some handling marks along the middle upper edge. There is a small spot of foxing along the upper left corner of the verso. The work is not framed.
