Talmud Yerushalmi, Amsterdam 1755. First Edition with Pnei Moshe Commentary. Personal Copy of R. Shlomo Ganzfried with His Autograph and Stamps

Talmud Yerushalmi on Seder Nashim, Amsterdam 1755. The first edition to include the Pnei Moshe commentary, which has been recognized as the classic commentary on Yerushalmi ever since it was printed. Till this day, it is included on the printed on the page of the Yerushalmi.

This copy was owned and used by the famed R. Shlomo Ganzfried, author of the “Kitzur Shulchan Aruch”. His personal autograph can be seen on the title page. His personal stamps can be seen on several leaves (see pp. [2], 7, 32), which read in Hungarian and Hebrew: “SALAMON GANZFRIED SUBRABINER UNGVAR”.

In addition to his personal autograph, we also see the signature of his son R. Yom Tov Lipa Ganzfried (“Lipa Ganzfried in Ungvar”), and his grandson R. Yechezkel Binet (1862-1913), who served as Rabbi of Sieni in present-day Romania (also referred to as Szinyérváralja in Hungarian, prounonuced “Varhal” in Yiddish). He was the son-in-law of R. Yitzchok Glick of Tolscva, author of “Yad Yitzchok”.

A small marginal gloss is seen on pp. 14 of Maseches Gittin.

Also seen is the autograph and personal stamp of “Baruch Leib Shdarf”, with an additional autograph on second to last leaf.

The Pnei Moshe commentary was authored by R. Moshe Margulies (1710-1781), of Keidan. During his youth, the Vilna Gaon lived in Keidan for a brief period, and studied under R. Moshe Margulies. Later on, he moved to Amsterdam where he ultimately succeeded in printing his commentary on the Yerushalmi. In his introduction, he thanks R. Aryeh Leib, Rav of Amsterdam, and his son-in-law R. Shaul Halevi of The Hague, for their support in printing this commentary.

In overall very good condition, with a few old marginal repairs, not affecting text.

Page size: 35cm.
