Sefer Pirkei Rabbi Eliezer, Amsterdam 1708. A Wide-Margined Copy in Original Vellum Binding

A beautiful copy of a scarce edition of Pirkei R. Eliezer, which was printed in Amsterdam in 1708. This copy is intact with uncut, wide margins with its original vellum binding. It should be noted that original vellum bindings are not often seen on Hebrew books, since they were very costly to produce. Typically, they were reserved for the wealthy and affluent, who were able to afford the high-end and exclusive binding. Clearly, this copy was produced for a wealthy individual, which is why the margins were also left intact.

Pirkei D’Rabbi Eliezer is an Aggadic Midrash written by the Tannah R. Eliezer ben Horcanus, based on the order of parts of the Chumash.

This copy is complete with the Portuguese dedication page to Moshe Abarbanel Aredes, who graciously covered the costs of the printing. With some handwritten annotations and corrections. Paper slightly browned, typical of Amsterdam imprints of this era.

Page size: 18.5cm
[2], 2-66, [2] pp.
