Indonesian or Moro sword w/ Scabbard
Indonesian or Southern Philippines, Moro short sword with scabbard, 19th century. The handle in wood with a lacquered red or cinnabar finish well aged from time and use and a brass keep to base. The blade with a short recess to ricasso, curved single edge with a polished lower half blade length of the edge. Scabbard in wood with a red or cinnabar lacquer over wood with tightly woven rattan strands in two places. The base secured with brass tacks. Probably a Chinese influenced Moro sword known as a Panabas or Karit. Size 21" L overall, blade 16 1/4" L
