Wagnertuba made by Gebr. Alexander Mainz, a rare musical instrument made of gilten metal and integratetonal elements of a French Horn and a Trombone. This musical instrument was used by a musician in the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra, preserved in original box! In very good condition, a number of light squashings on various edges, light wear and tear. Length: 78 cm. *The instrument was invented by Richard Wagner and is named after him. It was first used in the "Der Ring des Nibelungen" opera cycle, and was used since then by many composers among them Bruckner in his 7th and 8th symphonies and Richard Strauss in his Alps symphony. Wagner got the inspiration for the invention of the Wagnertuba while visiting in Paris in 1835, during a visit to Adolf Sax, who showed him his invention The Saxophone. Wagner wanted an instrument capable of creating a royal and noble sound as used in the Valhalla leitmotif, which resembled the trombone only with a less penetrating sound, like that of a horn. The instruments has valves, like those of a horn, operated by the left hand. There are two types of Wagnertuba in different sizes: tenor in B♭ and bass in F, however early in the 20th century manufacturer's combined the two types into a double tube tunable to both types.
