Known as the "Divrei Simcha, " he was the son of the Shinever Rov - R. Yechezkel Shraga Halberstam and Chana Rachel Halberstam (the Shineva’s fourth wife). He was the son-in-law of R. Chaim Tzvi Teitelbaum of Sighet (the Atzei Chaim). He was succeeded as Rebbe by his son, R. Yechezkel Shraga Halberstam (1900-42) who was murdered by German Nazis and their Ukrainian collaborators and was the last Admor of Cheshinov.
