Mizrah, lithograph. [Zuckerman printing press], Jerusalem, second half of 19th century.
This Mizrah was, most probably, printed by Rabbi Shmuel Zuckerman, in one of the first printing houses of Jerusalem established in 1872. In the center – the Western Wall with cypresses surrounded by several holy sites. The Mizrah was presented as a souvenir by Talmud Torah and Yeshivah "Etz Haim" and Bikur Holim hospital. On the right hand side "Far likht bentchn" in Yiddish; on columns – in Hebrew and in English – index of illustrations according to letters and numbers. On the corners appears the verse with images of animals "brave as a tiger…"
50X40 cm. Fair condition, tears, spots and holes. Folding marks. Missing corner. Adhesive tape. Ownership ink stamp on the reverse.
See: Omanut VeUmanut in Eretz Israel in the 19th century, editor: Yona Fisher, Israel Museum, Jerusalem, 1979. Item no. 154 (photographed).
