Cheremnykh Mikhail Mikhaylovich (1890, Tomsk – 1962, Moscow).
Soviet graphic painter. People’s painter of RSFSR (1952), active member of the Academy of Arts of the USSR (1958). USSR State prize laureate (1942). In 1911-1917 studied at Moscow School of painting, sculpture and architecture under K.A. Korovin and S.V. Malyutin. Creator of “ROSTA windows”, one of creators of “TASS windows”. Cooperated with newspapers and magazines “Crocodile” (since 1922), “Bezbozhnik u stanka”, “Smehach” and others. Made illustrations (paintings to works of M.E. Saltykov-Shchedrin”), designed theatre performances (“Pompadours” by A.F. Pashchenko in Leningrad Maly opera theatre, 1939 and others). Was awarded the order “Honor sign” and medals. In 1949-1962 gave lectures at V.I. Surikov Moscow State Art Institute. In 1950 was conferred the title of professor.
