Nalbandyan Dmitry Arkadievich (1906, Tiflis – 1993, Moscow).
Full member of the USSR Academy of Arts. People’s Artist of the USSRStudied in the Academy of Arts under E.M. Lansere (1924-1929). In the creative work of D. Nalbandian of the Soviet period historical revolutionary theme and so-called ‘official’ portrait were prevailing. During his long creative life the artist created portraits of many Communist party leaders (including Stalin, Khrushchev, Brezhnev), and for this he received among artists an unofficial title of ‘court portraitist’. Laureate of the Lenin Prize (1982), laureate of the State Prizes in 1946 and 1951. Personal exhibitions of the artist were held in Finland, the GDR, France, in Moscow. His works are kept in the State Tretyakov Gallery and other leading museums.
