Shayarei Knesset HaGedola by Rabbi Chaim Benveniste – Chief Rabbi of Izmir. Izmir 1671.
First edition of the Orach Chaim section. Bright, white paper, clean, wide margins.
Rabbi Chaim Benveniste was born in 1603 and was one of his generation’s outstanding Torah luminaries. He was one of the foremost Halachic authorities, and descendent of a prominent family. Rabbi Benveniste served as Chief Rabbi of Izmir following the Gaon Rabbi Yosef Escapa’s passing. He was a disciple of Rabbi Joseph di Trani and other Torah luminaries. Rabbi Benveniste’s famed books ‘Knesset HaGedola’ and ‘Shayarei Knesset HaGedola', are eight volumes that were widely distributed. ‘Knesset Gedola’ became a seminal work in Halachic rulings.
