Magnificent Volume of Hamburg Tanach, 1587. Copy Owned by a Disciple of the ‘Maggid’ of Kozhnitz and the ‘Chozeh’ of Lublin.
Hamburg Tanach, printed with hollow letters and bound with an impressive antique leather binding, with artistic embossing on the leather and decorated copper corners.
This copy has a few signatures, and handwritten dedications and ownership listing Rab as well as the stamp of
Rabbi Moshe Lifshitz Chalfan, disciple of the ‘Maggid’ of Kozhnitz and the ‘Chozeh’ of Lublin. Rabbi Chalfan was a community dignitary in the city Warsaw and father-in-law of the Admor Rabbi Yitzchak Meir of Gur – author of the ‘Chiddushei Harim’ – and of the Admor Rabbi Menachem Mendel of Kotzk. Deceased in 1831.
A most impressive and pedigreed volume.
