Drush LeShabbat Kallah. Holy Manuscript of the Resh Galuta Maran Rabbeinu Yosef Chaim, The Ben Ish Chai, With Many Blessings For Protection and Success. Bagdad, 1906. never been published !.
Complete autographed booklet that apparently never been printed.
Extremely lengthy sermon for Shabbat Kallah (the Shabbat prior to Shavuot), in the saintly handwriting of the Resh Galutah, Rabbeinu Yosef Chaim, the Ben Ish Chai. With numerous blessings for protection and success.
The Ben Ish Chai commences the sermon: “In the name of G-d we will act and we should succeed…sermon that I delivered with G-d’s help on Shabbat Kallah in 5666. May G-d, Blessed be He, in His mercy grant me the merit and assist me to give sermons each year.”
The sermon expounds on the elevated levels of the holy Torah and includes ethical lessons with tales and parables.
The sermon is comprised of a number of sections which often conclude: “G-d should help us, may He protect us and assist us….Amen ken yehi ratzon.”
With many blessings for protection and success. The Ben Ish Chai repeatedly handwrites these blessings a number of times!.

The Ben Ish Chai, Rabbi Yosef Chaim of Bagdad (1835-1909) was one of the greatest sages of his era. He was a Kabbalist, orator, Community leader, author of a number of books and one of Middle Eastern Jewry’s leading Halachic authorities.
The Ben Ish Chai’s sermons and lesson were one of the outstanding attributes of his leadership.
On four special Shabbatot of the year: Shabbat Shuva, Shabbat Zachor, Shabbat HaGadol and Shabbat Kallah, multitudes of Bagdad’s Jews would converge on the city’s central Synagogue, Tzalat el Kabiri, with a capacity of approx. 10,000 seats, to hear the Ben Ish Chai’s sermons.
These sermons were a fusion of Aggadah and ethics. In the foreword to his book, the Ben Ish Chai writes that it is known that most people are not drawn to sermons based solely on Halachot. Rather the main content of the lectures should be Aggadah and ethics.
The Ben Ish Chai geared his sermons toward all levels of society. Hence, he incorporated many parables, stories and riddles in order to draw his listeners interest to the Torah content of his sermons. The sages and Kabbalists of Babylonia held him in greatest esteem due to his great erudition in both the revealed and hidden areas of Torah and Halachah and the profundity of his thinking.
The Ben Ish Chai’s consistent originality in his sermons was unique! Although he delivered sermons for over 50 years, he never repeated himself. Each lecture contained an innovative approach with novel Torah explanations!
