A Lengthy and Early Rabbinical Responsum in the Handwriting of the Esteemed Rabbi Moshe Feinstein, z"l. Lyuban, Lag B'Omer 5727 [1967].
Rabbinical responsum from the renowned halachic authority Rabbi Moshe Feinstein to Rabbi Chaim Katz, Head of the Rabbinical Court of Stanisławów,
regarding the matter of "Pikuach Nefesh of one who intentionally puts himself in danger - can we desecrate the Sabbath to save him?"
The long, scholarly responsum fills three large handwritten pages, and at the top is marked "סימן עא" (71). This responsum was printed in Rabbi Moshe Feinstein's Shut Igrot Moshe Orach Chaim 1:127.
At the end of the responsum, there is a mention of the Gaon Rabbi Shimon Trebnik, Head of the Rabbinical Court of Hadyach, who was a close friend of Rabbi Moshe Feinstein.
The responsum was written early in Rav Feinstein's career, while he served as a rabbi in Lyuban, Russia, and was dated Lag B'Omer 5727 [1967].
Rabbi Shimon Trebnik was one of the students of the Chofetz Chaim and studied in the Radin Yeshiva of the Chofetz Chaim, which was situated in the city of Shumyachi in the Mogilev province. He was a close disciple of Rabbi Naftali Troop, who served as the rabbi of Chabad in his later years and was an Av Beit Din in the Rabbinical Court of Chabad, head of the Yeshiva of Talmidei Tomchei Tmimim in Kfar Chabad, and chairman of the committee for the welfare of the people.
Rabbi Shimon Trebnik later served as the Av Beit Din of the town of Snovsk, and afterward as a rabbi in the Kol Yaakov Yeshiva in Moscow.
From this responsum, it is evident that he also served as a rabbi in Hadyach, where the gravesite of the Admor Hazaken, the founder of Chabad Chassidus, is located.
There was extensive correspondence between Rabbi Moshe Feinstein and others in Lyuban, and Rabbi Moshe Feinstein even explored the possibility of moving to Eretz Yisrael together with Rabbi Shimon Trebnik.
