Eitz Chaim Yeshiva is a historical Jerusalem institution, dating back to the Yishuv HaYashan era. It includes a Talmud Torah, Yeshivah and Kollel. Rabbi Shmuel Salant established the Eitz Chaim Talmud Torah in 1841. Its classes were held in rooms in various locations throughout the Old City. Only in 1857 did the classes join together as a cohesive unit and were housed in a group of buildings near to the Churvah Synagogue. They received the name Yeshivas Eitz Chaim.

The Yeshiva was headed by Rabbis Shmuel Salant and Moshe Nechemya Kahanov.
Towards the end of his life, Rabbi Shmuel Salant appointed Rabbi Yechiel Michel Tekuchinsky as Dean and Principal of the Yeshiva.

In 1925 Rabbi Isser Zalman Melzer was appointed as Rosh Yeshiva, a position he held until his demise. Rabbi Aryeh Levine served as the Mashgiach. Other great scholars held positions of leadership in this significant institution.
