Kiryat Chana. By Rabbi Elchanan son of Bezalel Uri Lipman. Prague 1612
Elucidation on Pirkei Avot. Rare and valuable book that has not appeared in Public Auctions.
It is the ninth tractate in Seder Nezikin. Unlike the other tractates of the Mishna that deal with Halachic laws, Pirkei Avot focuses on ethics, good character traits and elevated behavior.
Many communities customarily read a chapter of this tractate at Mincha on summer Shabbatot.
The title page features the signature of Rabbi Shlomo of Dubno.
Shlomo son of Yoel Dubno was born in Dubon, Volhynia, in Ukraine, (then Poland-Lithuania). At age 14 he married and moved to Galicia where he learned under Rabbi Shlomo of Chelm. He studied Chumash commentary and grammar. He excelled in his studies and in 1766 he published his book, Shaarei Ne’imah al Hagayot HaIvrit in Frankfurt.
The composition, Kiryat Chana, received the approbation of Rabbi Shlomo of Luntschitz, Rabbi of Prague and was even proofread by him.
Over 200 commentaries have been authored on Pirkei Avot over the last thousand years.
Prague, 1612.
42 leaves. Small tear on the corner of the last two leaves, erasing some text. Apart from this the copy is complete and in very good condition.
Rare and valuable book that has not appeared in Public Auctions.
