Shut HaTashbetz. Amsterdam, [1738-9]. First edition. Copy with 7 title pages.
Shut by Rabbi Shimon bar Tzemach, based on a manuscript that was archived by his descendants for three hundred and twenty years. Four sections in a single volume.

This edition has several known variants, which differ from each other in the number of their title pages. We know of copies with 7 title pages and there are copies with 4 original title pages (see: The Bibliography of the Hebrew Book and see Dan and Gita Yardeni, Seder Hadpasato Larishona shel Sefer HaTashbetz, Alei Sefer, 1982, pp. 119-132). In this copy, there are also the three title pages of the fourth section which is divided into three Turim.

In this copy, there are several stamps and a signature of Rabbi Mordechai Yaakov ben Kalman Krasner – Rosh Metivta and Moreh Tzeddek of Kovle, Vohlin district.

The author Rabbi Shimon bar Tzemach Duran – Tashbetz was one of the last Rishonim. Was born in Spain in 1361 and following persecutions in 1391, immigrated to Algeria, where he passed away in 1444.
