with many glosses in ancient Sephardic script on the margins of the leaves.

At the beginning of each book of the bible, an ornate frame surrounds the first word. Impressive engravings at the beginning of Shir Hashirim, on the title page of Sefer Ketuvim and at the beginning of Sefer Tehillim.

On the title page: "printed by Christophe Plantin by the order of Sir Bomberg…". On the colophon on the last leaf: "printed by and at the house of Christophe Plantin with the Bomberg prints and fonts in Tevet 1565…".

Christophe Plantin, one of the greatest printers of the 16th century: as Daniel Bomberg's nephew, he mastered the art of printing and soon became one of the most successful and influential contemporary printers. Shortly before the printing of the Bible, Plantin became a partner of the members of the Bomberg family, thus receiving the Hebrew types developed by Bomberg.
Plantin printed several Bibles in Hebrew of varied sizes and formats.
