Modern Art: Spice Container Made of Wood and Silver. Work of the Artist Hanna Behar Paneth. Israel 1960s-1970s

Unique, modernly designed spice container; elegant and quality craftsmanship. The work of Bezalel artist, student of Wolpert Gumbel - Hanna Behar Paneth. 

At the base of the container, Paneth combined wood and silver. Calligraphic sawing of the blessing of the spices - 'Bore Atzei Besamim'.

The upper part of the container is shaped like a tall eliptic cypress made of smooth, polished wood. The upper part can be opened to insert spices for Havdalah. 


Hanna Behar Paneth - silversmith and Jewelry designer. Was born in 1936. Studied at the Bezalel Academy under Wolfert Gumbel. She took part in international exhibitions and received awards. Her works are exhibited in museums around the world. 

The Bezalel School of Arts and Crafts or The New Bezalel is a school of art and design, established in Jerusalem in 1935 on the site of the Bezalel Beit Midrash for Art and Crafts. The school focused on the development of functional design, with social aspects, under the influence of European modernism. In addition, the school sought to promote industrialized design in Israel. In 1955, the institution received academic recognition and became the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design.
